Harper’s Bazaar (HBZVN): Yasmin, you were born in Amsterdam, but you have a unique mixture of blood – Indian, German, Indonesian, Chinese and Dutch. Geneticists claim that such people tend to be especially beautiful and talented, and your example is a clear confirmation of this. When did you first realize the power of such heritage? Tell us about your family and how being multicultural has helped you explore and conquer the world.

YASMIN VERHEIJEN: I studied to be an interior designer and worked as a hostess. There, I got scouted for Miss Netherlands by a former holder of this title, Desiree van Den Berg. I had never modeled before, but after Miss Universe, I started modeling in Hamburg.

Being multicultural makes me feel I can blend in in many cultures. My family has many different cultures and religions and gave me a lot of knowledge from all of them. They made me realize that love is the key. We are all human and the same.

HBZVN: Besides fashion and design, what are your other spheres of interest?

YASMIN VERHEIJEN: I have studied interior design but right after finishing my studies I became Miss Netherlands. I struggled with my health which made me dive deeper into nutrition to learn more about my body. I am very interested in nutrition and cooking and studied to be a health coach at IIN Integrative Nutrition School.

HBZVN: You have traveled all over the world. Which cities inspire you the most, where do you want to return again and again?

YASMIN VERHEIJEN: I love to travel but often I don’t feel that I want to go back to a place and prefer to see a new country. The only country that I love returning to is Indonesia.

HBZVN: What milestone have you set for yourself in 2024? If you were writing a book, what would it be about?

YASMIN VERHEIJEN: I am actually writing a cookbook. I am dairy, gluten, yeast and sugar intolerant. I can’t have many popular desserts, so I decided to make my own. The book is full of desserts that are dairy, gluten, yeast and refined sugar free. I will finish that in 2024 and I am very excited to share that with the world.
