Few performers bring a more varied and comprehensive musical background to their careers than Becktoria, a singer-songwriter from England who is currently based out of Los Angeles. Her journey began with a meticulous education in classical music, from playing the violin in both her college orchestra and chamber orchestra to the flute in an ensemble and the drums in a big band. She also played the piano and recorder and underwent extensive classical vocal training, performing in a series of choirs from the age of 11.
Her evolution into what would eventually become a career as a pop singer began in those formative years. She was cast as a lead female vocalist in her high school pop/jazz band and also performed in a number of plays and musical theater productions. By 2015, she had transitioned into the world of pop as a professional singer and songwriter, though she continued to broaden her musical horizons and challenge the norms of the genre while veering into electro pop, albeit with the classical influences of her youth. Renowned for her unique vocals and innovative artistry, Becktoria’s career as a singer-songwriter has been remarkable. She has carved a niche all her own, continually pushing the boundaries of musical expression. Forthcoming projects—a duo of EPs, “Dreamland” and “Raveland”—will delve into EDM sounds and choir-like vocals while also exploring minimalist lyrics that promise to reveal her eccentricity in full bloom.
It is not merely her sonic innovation that sets her apart. Her lyrical journey is another aspect of her career that has undergone the fusion of experimentation and refinement, focusing on the depth of human experience—from the bliss of new love to the pain of breakups—and her own spiritual journey through life’s hardships and joys. From the more metaphorical musings of her EP “Lovers” to the down-to-earth stylings of her latest EP, “Goodbye & Hello,” Becktoria hopes that sharing her own story through song will help uplift her fans.
If Becktoria’s music and lyrics are constantly treading exciting new ground, her music videos transcend conventional boundaries, captivating the senses and stirring the soul. In “Lovers,” Becktoria focused more on animated videos. “Goodbye & Hello” featured live action and stunning visuals, giving off the same sort of sexy and cool vibes you might get at a trendy club late on a Saturday night. Other videos have an almost dreamlike whimsy, while fashion is always a hallmark of Becktoria’s visual catalogue.
Her critically acclaimed music has captivated millions while her passion for her craft resonates deeply with a worldwide audience. Both “Lovers” and her single “Mistakes” was featured on the NACC charts. Her single “I Like It Like That” from “Goodbye & Hello” received significant radio play and achieved notable chart success, peaking at No. 36 on Billboard Top 40 Indicator Chart, No. 46 on Mediabase Top 200 Chart, No. 9 on New Music Weekly Top 40, and No. 3 on NMW Top 40 Indie Music, among others. Another single, “Sigh,” peaked at No. 1 on the Upcoming 100 chart.
A collaboration with Donaccia on the song “One Love” was signed to the renowned French record label, “Because Music,” and to a major publishing company in Italy, “Smilax Music Publishing.” In addition, she recently debuted a new song entitled “Would,” artfully created by esteemed producer Hamster. She previously collaborated with him on the popular tracks “Happier” and “Invincible.”
Becktoria has become a fan favorite on social media, with her songs generating over 4.39 million views on YouTube, 1.23 million Plays on Soundcloud and over 56.1 million streams across all digital platforms.
And she continues to travel down the intersecting paths that music presents her. She served as a judge on the series The Singer’s Choice, a show created to help independent artists get discovered and hone their craft. For Becktoria, aiding other artists—and people in general—in their journey toward creative fulfillment and expression remains an important part of her career and life, as does casting a positive light on mental-health awareness.
But her own musical journey continues in earnest. Alongside upcoming projects in “Dreamland” and “Raveland,” Becktoria will also feature on a pair of upcoming DMX albums, with one focused on electronic music and another on gospel music. Both albums will honor the legacy of the late DMX, featuring his previously unreleased music alongside some of the biggest artists and DJs in the world. Additionally, Becktoria has launched a social media campaign, “Rave by Becktoria,” that will highlight her fresh and fun takes on dance, music and fashion. For Becktoria, testing the bounds of her own creativity is a lifelong endeavor.
In her photo shoot, Becktoria’s yellow dress elicits the softer, more ethereal color palettes of her “Falling in Love/You & I” music video, creating the sense of a fairytale romance. It also evokes the innocence and purity of new love from her song “Hidden Gem,” which includes lyrics like, “White turns into red / pureness was her back then.” Her beige look veers into the sexy, mirroring the merger of fashion, music and dance in her later projects. The photos in the black dress are meant to portray her free spirit and desire to break free of convention, while the black and white look showcases the contrast of her personality, reflecting both a shy side in her personal life and the confidence to express herself and share her creativity with the world. The photographer’s vision was to illuminate Becktoria’s many sides—sexy and playful, introspective and honest, always classy—while reflecting her love of both fashion and, of course, all things shiny.
